rhythm büro is a new record label based out of kiev, ukraine started by dj and promoter igor glushko. the büro first began as a local party series organised by igor, alexander pavlenko (aka na nich, widely known in the drum’n’bass world as sunchase) and vera logdanidi (aka vero). since the party’s beginning in march 2015, rhythm büro has hosted such greats as zadig, abdulla rashim, etapp kyle, eric cloutier, woo york, artefakt, acronym, steve bicknell and actress all at different non-club warehouse-like locations around kiev. a peculiar aspect of the rhythm büro team’s objective has been to maintain secrecy about the exact location of the party until a day prior to the event, when ticket buyers are then informed about the location via text message or email. the label was started to be the logical and progressive extension to what rhythm büro has established itself to be locally: one of ukraine’s prominent techno initiatives. for the first release of the label, na nich and vero have contributed two joint-produced tracks that are to become their first publicly available material under their current aliases. while a1 leans itself to the soundscape that is more or less typical for rhythm büro parties: trippy, hypnotic and transportive techno, a2 hits the floor with refreshing zeal, bringing an electro-esque break-beat under deep and emotive synth layers. the b side contains two remixes of the title track, one of which is thoroughly tailored by the dutch-born-berlin-based-duo, artefakt (mostly known for their releases on delsin, prologue and field) as well as a strong and heady remix by semantica records’ mastermind, svreca.

it is very difficult to present david duriez without writing an encyclopedic tome as its influence on the house music in france was decisive. since its inception in 1992, david released over a hundred records under his name, tens under various pseudonyms, mainly on vinyls on the most renowned labels like 2020vision, ovum, systematic, pokerflat, f communication, under the counter, stickman, crosstown rebels, the end, etc .. desolat label boss loco dice is back with what is sure to be a massive autumn package: he has remixed the seminal dance track ‘go’ by the legendary moby, twice, and has made it all his own in the process. moby needs little introduction: the american dance producer and live performer’s albums are classics of the genre that are celebrated far and wide. they have been used on thousands of adverts, have given rise to hit singles all over the world and have made him one of the most celebrated electronic music stars of our time. his ‘go’ track was what started it all for him back in the 90’s, and was a bona fide club classic of the day. it still resonates today and always gets crowds going. now it has been remixed twice by loco dice, who has added his own stamp to it in distinctive fashion. his first excellent version is eight minutes of chunky and tribal drums, with rubber kicks, clipped horn stabs and big hits all building the pressure. those most famous vocal cries really finish it off in style, and ensure that dance floors will go wild whenever it is dropped, as do wonky synths and big piano chords at the breakdown. the second version is more emotive, with big sweeping strings smeared in the background to help make it all the more dramatic, teary eyed and impactful on the floor. this one is for the peak time in any set and is sure to make the most memorable moment of any night. both remixes here pack a real punch, and whilst remaining true to the original, they both sound just like you would expect from modern dance heavyweight loco dice.

get on down is a heavyweight slice of storming jamaican disco-reggae heat from the legendary studios of miami s tk disco empire. king sporty s version may not have been as well known as connie cases electro laden later 1982 version (also produced by sporty) but the perfect marriage of disco stylings and sports jamaican roots meant the original 1979 version was a cult classic in underground deep disco circles. over 35 years since get on down was released the keepers of the tk disco vaults have given permission for some of their classics and lesser known gems to be respectfully tweaked by contemporary producers and dj s who fully understand the lineage of the label and the music contained within. stepping up and get his hands dirty is none other than london dwelling, wolf music man medlar. a regular face behind the turntables all over the world medlar has lovingly freaked king sportys anthem for the modern dance-floor, extending the right parts in just the oh so right way, dubbing out parts that needed just a smidgen of echo here and there and generally making the track irresistible to dj s with its lovely long beat led intro. these are extremely tasteful edits, done with respect and reverence over 2 parts old school style. look out for those low flying dubbed out vox and lazer beams too, powerful stuff! this is only one of many underground disco classics that the mighty miami based tk disco label brought to the world, reimagined for 2016s dance-floor, officially sanctioned in conjunction with henry stone music / tk disco. file under - classic / essential!

“sway”, a beautiful and groovy instrumental jazz-rock record, is the debut album by sante palumbo, a pianist who grew up musically in the northern italy jazz scene. his ‘bandmates’ - hugo heredia, sergio farina, marco ratti and lino liguori - make palumbo and his orchestra a real supergroup! never reissued on vinyl since its first release in 1973, its unique sound makes it a cult lp, deeply sought after by collectors all over the world. the vinyl release includes a cd-copy of the album.

a negative hallucination is an idea that was first put forward by sigmund freud in 1890. he used the term to describe how a hypnotised person could be led to be unable to see a person or thing that was right in front of them once out of the hypnotised state, creating a gap in their reality. sadly, this gap in reality seems endemic in the minds of many in the world, whether from lack of access to facts or from wilful ignorance. the result is the same regardless: a world where many oppressed peoples reality is edited out of the conversation. noleian reusse (half of africans with mainframes) and thomas cox (one third of pittsburgh track authority) got together in the studio in pittsburgh during a week of extreme social unrest in the usa in late 2015, resulting in these recordings. the tracks are crafted with a stripped back electronic funk and a stark, relentless feel that reflects the energy in the air at the time. as long time fans of politically and socially charged music like public enemy, underground resistance, nwa, dopplereffekt, and gil scott-heron, noleian and thomas have taken these influences and mixed them with their own styles to come up with a modern dancefloor version of those ideals. lead track solidarity fills the whole a side with its optimism. soulful melodies and strings conquer the driving rhythms, bringing a sense that through sticking together, a better future is possible. the b side s perspective is darker. police state is a crazy raved out banger that combines gritty acid and harsh tones that channel the day-to-day existence for far too many urban people. the third and final cut, surveillance, is a paranoid, spacey techno track that would be ideal as a soundtrack for closed-circuit television video reels. this snapshot of urban life is tied together through artwork by andrew burger, whose mix of throwback style and current ideas nails the dystopian existence that is now reality as predicted so long ago by orwell, huxley, lucas, and many more.
